This article describes how to enhance tag management inside a Cintoo project by joining tags into complex ones and splitting complex tags into simple ones. This allows to better control the content of the tags and have a clean organization inside a Cintoo project.
Permission Manage Tags is mandatory for this functionality.
Merge tags
Input: Merging operation can be effectuated on a selection of tags that could be:
- simple tags
- complex tags
- mix of simple and complex tags
Selected tags must be located in the same Tag list.
Selecting multiple tags is possible by holding the Ctrl key on a keyboard and left clicking on the tag, or holding a Shift key on a keyboard and choosing a range.
To merge tags together click on Merge tags button at the bottom of Tag Explorer.
A settings panel would appear on the left. Add the unique ID of the future merged tag, add a Description if needed and select the way of treatment of the initial tags.
Two options are possible regarding the initial tags:
- source tags could be deleted
- source tags could be preserved
This behavior is controlled by the checkbox Delete source tags at the bottom.
Then click Merge X tags to finish the process.
Output: New complex tag is created representing all the selected tags.
Note: if initial tags had a marking Needs validation the merged tag would be Validated.
Explode tags
Before proceeding with exploding complex tags please make sure that the available tag capacity is sufficient to support the additional amount of tags that would be created as a result of this action.
If this is the case an Error message pops up.
Input: Either one complex tag or list of complex tags that even could be located in different Tag lists.
Output: A set of separate simple tags, for each complex tag exploded, with the following name scheme "ID_ComplexTag_N" (each of them being unique). Properties/metadata are propagated into simple tags. The original complex tag is deleted.
Note: if initial complex tag had a marking Needs validation the split tag would be Validated.
